Why?

So what would possess someone who is earning an average income to scrimp on food? Good question. Upon telling people of my plans to undertake such a task, i am often met with the exclamation "What the ..." or "Why would you do something like that?"

For me to undertake such a "social experiment" is largely due to my curiosity to find out more on the impacts of one's life when they are restricted by monetary limits. I am also hoping to learn more about the impact  of policies and rulings passed by our governing bodies and how they affect the average Australian.
It should be noted that i am only limiting my expenditure on food alone. I have not included the cost of accommodation / utility / communication and travel. I hope to present and elaborate on these factors as i progress through the $5 period.
Other drivers for me are looking at the social context in how we access and utilize the services that are available and provided to the public. Another aspect is looking at what impact it has on my social life and my relationship with friends. Something that many of us do is, heading to the pub and having one or many drinks. Not only does one wake up with a sore head, but also leaves a dent in the wallet.

My intent for this blog is not to harp on about politics and drone about the negatives of this society but rather, its to document an excursion of self discovery to learn more and reflect on the topics that present themselves within a wider community who.

Who knows, i might even better my writing skills  and the ability to express my thoughts and idea succinctly.

I'll be following along. Sounds like an interesting exploration.
